Group Tour Itineraries
Enjoy a 3 day tour of Wytheville.
Day 1
Begin your journey at our Visitors Center, filled with information on the area and our historic footprints, as well as a museum dedicated to former Virginia Governor, E. Lee Trinkle, a native of Wytheville. It’s also at the Visitors Center where you will meet your step-on guide that will accompany you on your tour and delight you with the many legends of the area.
Get on board and travel along a National Scenic Byway to the top of Big Walker Mountain where only the birds see more! At an elevation of 3,405 feet, the lookout has an observation tower and a swinging bridge. This is the oldest and highest private scenic attraction in Virginia and is the starting point of the Tolands Raid Civil War trail that ends in Wytheville. The lookout at the top of the mountain is a Virginia Birding Trail and an exciting breathtakingly beautiful view.
The BW Country Store features gifts, local crafts and artists works, hand dipped ice cream cones and homemade fudge, jams and relishes. During the summer months, the weekends feature special artisan demonstrations.
Our next stop along our historic footprints journey will be Wytheville’s Heritage Preservation Center where you can begin tours of the Haller-Gibboney Rock House – home of Wytheville’s first physician – and the Thomas J. Boyd Museum, filled with local history, a Civil War exhibit, a section on “the summer without children”, and more! Our newest museum, the Edith Bolling Wilson Museum, is dedicated to a Wytheville native and First Lady.
Up next will be Wolf Creek Indian Village and Museum… featuring a reconstructed Indian village with guides in native attire, museum, gift shop and sheltered picnic area. The interpretive guides lead a hands-on exploration of primitive skills including handmade replicas of tools, baskets, pottery and weapons. After touring the village, your group can shop in the gift shop full of Indian relics and beautiful native jewelry.
After checking into one of our 25 hotels, your group will enjoy dinner on their own at one of our dining establishments.
